Direct Fractal Measurement of Fracture Surfaces

  • To overcome the difficulties in estimation of fractal dimension for fracture surfaces, anew method of fractal measurement called the projective covering method(PCM) is proposed. Based on the measurements by means of a laser scanner, the fractal dimension Ds∈[2, 3) of fracture surface is directly estimated by using this method. The research results agree well with the theory of fractal geometry and measurement data.
